Dear friends,
I am participating in the Disney Helping Kids Shine Bowl-A-Thon supporting
Junior Achievement of Central Florida! The mission of Junior Achievement is to
reach students in grades K-12 with economic programs and real world knowledge.
The Bowl-A-Thon is Junior Achievement's largest fundraiser and is vital to the
continuing success of the organization.
Last year, Junior Achievement volunteers touched the lives of more than 90,000
children. This school year, Junior Achievement's goal is to provide innovative
programs to even more children across Central Florida. In order to reach this
important goal, bowlers must raise the funds to support the programs that
volunteers teach.
Your donation is an investment in an organization that is committed to insuring
that our young people stay in school and have the skills necessary to be
employed after graduation.
Thank you for your consideration and please do not hesitate to contact me with
any questions you may have. Your support will make a difference in the lives of
Central Florida's youth!
Please click the link below to learn more about Junior Achievement and make a
donation to help me reach my goal!

Thank you in advance for your donation!
Appreciatively,
Melissa

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies. 2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. (unless they don't have a quote, in which case try wikiquote) 3. Post them here for everyone to guess. 4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the tv show. 5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search or other search functions.
---------
1.) And life is for the alive, my dear- So let's keep living it! 2.) You may see me only as a drunken, vice-ridden gnome whose friends are just pimps and girls from the brothels, but I know about art and love, if only because I long for it with every fiber of my being 3.) As you can see, the psuedo-facade was stripped away to reveal a minimalist rococo design. Note the unusual inverted vaulted ceilings. This is yet another example of the late neoclassic Baroque period. And, as I always say, "if it's not Baroque, don't fix it!" 4.) X: All major theme parks have had delays. When they opened Disneyland in 1955, nothing worked, nothing. Y: But if the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists. 5.) Death does not stop true love, all it can do is delay it for awhile. 6.) I carried a watermelon.
7.) Can I keep you?
8.) . . .and your beard is so. . .twisted! 9.) Apple? Its good! 10.) Pudge controls the weather. 11.) You're a... you're a complex Freudian hallucination having something to do with my mother and I don't know why you have wings, but you have very lovely legs and you're a very nice tiny person and what am I saying, I don't know who my mother was; I'm an orphan and I've never done drugs because I missed the sixties, I was an accountant. 12.) I can hip-hop, be-bop, dance till ya drop, and yo yo yo, make a wicked cup of coco. 13.)Today I have taken the Siegfried oath, and danced with a sailor, a cop and an extremely friendly Cherokee Indian. 14.) I see pride. I see power. I see a bad ass mother who don't take no crap off of nobody. 15.) I am disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means "no."

What can I say? Work, class, and a social life have proven to take more of a priority in my life, though I always find time (usually multiple times a day) to read my Friends page.
Well, I happen to be at Animal Kingdom on my day off (how lame could I possibly be?). Peter was driving a float in parade today, so we had lunch at Chevy's,and then I drove him backstage to the parade building. While I waited for the parade, I hung out in Africa. It's odd, working in an area for over a year, to feel like it's your "home," and then not to recognize a single person.
Overall, life has been good. . .the one downside is that whole: What Happens Next? complex of mine. As many of you know, I've been working as an Operations Manager at Animal Kingdom at the Main Entrance/Guest Relations. . .the internship is more than half way over, and I'm not sure where this track leads me. I have 30 credits left of school. . .which can easily be done in two semesters. . .my classes are even registered for. . .but what happens if I get extended? Or offered a spot in the Leadership Casting Call Pool (which is pretty much guaranteed already). . .Lots of things to ponder.
I suppose everything will work out alright in the end.
We shall see, in the meantime, all I can do is: Keep Moving Forward. If you haven't seen Meet the Robinsons, I strongly suggest that you do :)

I know it has been quite some time since I've written an actual update. . .what can I say? Life has me very busy all of a sudden! In fact, even as I write this now, I'm in between attending class at the Disney University and heading back to DAK to close. Not enough time to go home in between, but enough time to update a journal. . .gotta love that.
So as of last week, I am officially trained in Guest Relations, Parking, Auto Plaza, Kennel, and Park Greeters. . .making me a full-fledged manager. I had my first day as an opening manager this past Saturday, and it was INTENSE. President's Day Weekend has been record breaking for us here at DAK, and it's all because of that silly clownfish and that terrifying Yeti.
Being a Disney Leader has certainly been an experience. . .an experience I wouldn't trade for anything.
Last night, I was the only closing manager for the area. I was tinkering in the Cast Deployment System, taking a look at our budgets, when one of my Park Greeter College Program Cast Members came in. She had only 10 minutes left before her out time, but was in no rush to ER. She confided in me that this is the best place she has ever worked. . .that the managers made her feel welcome, and that she felt we were here to help her. She told me that my words of confidence in her, and my acknowledgements for her coming in and starting early made her day. In turn, this made mine.
I will be very busy throughout the next few months. . .and do not foresee a lot of Live Journal updates. . .but know that I'm having the time of my life. :)
Remember: When You Wish Upon A Star, Your Dreams Come True :)

So it's no secret that I love my new job. . .which is why I'm fretting. The internship requirement at UCF changed, and now I'm required to have 16 hours a week for 3 consecutive semesters. . .why is this a bad thing? In my area, there's no way to guarantee 16 hours a week. . .in fact, you're LUCKY if you get 12! With it being summer, there are fewer and fewer events taking place. . .and the past two weeks I've only had four hours each week. . .this upcoming week I have 10, but that's only because I picked up some more shifts on Extra Hours Hotline for Flower and Garden. I don't know what to do!! Everyone's been suggesting different things: get a second job at Sea World or Universal. . .but I refuse to do that. Sorry. Call me stubborn, but I don't want to work at any other park.
I'm still within transfer guidelines for a little while longer, but I'm hesitant about transfering out of the area I eventually want to work in (management wise) so early! I mean, I just started! I've only worked two days where I haven't been training! Even if I did transfer: where would I go? Certainly not back to Africa. Attractions elsewhere? Resorts? Can't say I'm too fond with moving to Merchandise or F&B. . .or really even Entertainment for that matter. *sigh* Wouldn't it be a blessing if all of a sudden they called me for conciegre? (I'm still on the waiting list)
Well. . .I need to go get ready for the presentation for my Keystone Final. *sigh*

So it's 3:21 p.m., and I'm sitting in the Disney Learning Center at Epcot. . .what fun! Especially since my shift doesn't start until 6. I was thinking since Peter and I carpooled, and I would be here SO early that I would play in the parks for a bit, but it's POURING. Bleh!!!
Well, there's some really neat things that have occurred in the past few days, so let me take a few moments to kind of sum that all up!
Yesterday, I had the honor of spending the day with two very important people, Dave Smith (the founder of the Disney Archives) and Jason Surrell (an Imagineer). Steven and Dave are pretty good friends, so when Dave comes to town, he gives Steven a call, and so Steven invited Peter and myself to spend the afternoon with him. What a fascinating guy! We walked all around Flower and Garden (since it was "opening day") and then we purchased the new stamps. Soooo cool. . .they're postmarked from Epcot on the day they were released, and introduced. Very neat.
Jason Surrell met up with us over in Celebration, so it was my first time actually travelling through the area (besides when we drove to the hospital a few months back to see Peter's brother when he broke his arm. Anyway, it's a really nice neighborhood. . .the houses are gorgeous, my one qualm is that there are no backyards!!! well, I mean, there are, but they're TINY. hehe. We ate at the Market Street Cafe which was DELICIOUS. Loved it. I foresee it becoming more of a hangout spot for us, especially since it's reasonably priced and on top of that we get a discount. :)
Hmmm. . .anything else? Oh yes. . .I finally received my housing assignment, which has me DANCING. LOL I'm on the first floor of the building I wanted to be in, across the hall from Kevin. As if that wasn't exciting enough, PETER is now Kevin's other roommate! Perfection! I'll be living across the hall from my 2 best friends (my boyfriend and my twinny!) hehehe!!! Loooove it.
Ok, well, that's all. . .I'm gonna head to the Discovery Diner and get a drink I think. I'm thirrrrrrrsty :)
Love to all buh byes

Ok. . .the day was like so:
Woke up, still tired, went back to bed for a bit Waited for Steven to get back to UCF, learned that Steven's gas was stolen from his car, but he got back, and well. . . Got ready, then Steven, Peter, and myself headed to the Prime Outlets. . . The outlets got Peter in the mood for some Cast Connection/Property Control. Got to the parking lot, met up with Kevin, Kevin locked his keys in the car. . .Peter was determined that he could get his car unlocked before AAA arrived. . .he succeeded. So glad that my boyfriend can carjack. LOL Anyway. . .then Tim met us, we went to Epcot.
At Epcot we rode SSE, Imagination, went for dinner in Germany, and then went on Maelstrom. Hung out in Mouse Gear, then it was off to MINI GOLF! I didn't come in last. . Steven and I tied in 3rd :) Not bad for me!!! It was fun though. . .even if I lost my super cool Elphaba ball. Sadness.
We drove to Downtown Disney after that. . .it's a short drive, but the drive felt weird. . .the car was clunking. Park, and aha, the tire. . .SLASHED. Peter then proceeded to change my tire.
Other than those crazy car events. . .the night was rather good :)
The family that sat w/ us at dinner was a lil weird, but other than that, good times! Must say, I'm now obsessed with my STRING THING (it's soooo cool), and I loooove my MOTHER picture frame(inside joke w/ Steven), plus my beauuuutiful Fantasia globe thing that Peter gave me.
Oh yeah, at DTD a manager in Once Upon a Toy did the Cha Cha Slide with us, she gave us magical moment certificates + play dough. . .in turn, Peter gave her a GSF! :)
Since he saved both myself and Nivek (Kevin spelled backwards, haha). . .I can say: PETER IS MY HERO!!! I love him so much, don't know what I'd do without him :)
